A Family Business

Stitch and Whimsy is run by Paul and Laurie Donnell. As we married and blended our families, we also blended our ideas for our family-owned business, but we simply could not decide on one, so we blended our existing biusinesses and interests in one umbrella company focused on creativity. by day, Paul is a milkman (yes, those still exist!), and Laurie is a school teacher. By night, we are working to build up our home-based internet business so that we can both retire our day jobs and work together at home. We have a worksapce in our home where we make shirts with a vinyl cutter or transfer printer. We carry a small inventory of fabric, patterns, and notions for our sewing friends. We have a 16-needle commercial embroidery machine that makes our cutsom holiday shirts for the tutu outfits. And finally, we find vintage sewing machines and restore them to their former glory. We hope to send them to new owners so they can enjoy the art of sewing with the workhorse machines that have survived 50-100 years. Together, Paul and Laurie have 7 children, 13 grandchildren, and 2 sweet dogs. We put the Lord first in our home, our business, and in our lives.

Our Skills & Expertise

When my son was born, I wanted to use cloth diapers to save money, but they ended up being way too expensive! I thought they couldn't be that hard to make myself, and so I bought a sewing machine and watched a million Youtube videos and taught myself how to sew and make diapers! What started as a way to save money turned into a way to make money! I put all my profits back into the business and sold cloth diaper making supplies to mamas all over the world. This grew into children's clothing as my babies outgrew diapers, and I created a few patterns of my own (Cloth Tots PDF patterns found on the Stitch and Whimsy Etsy shop).

Fast forward 15 years and many moves later, and I am finally in a place where I can grow my business again, but this time our interests have outgrown just fabric and sewing. We now make shirts, both embroidery and transfers. We also restore vintage sewing machines. Our house has a huge workshop and we are ready to create so many things for our customers! Feel free to visit any of our 4 Etsy shops, or contact us if you still can't find what you are looking for. We love custom and bulk orders for shirts!
